Join Dr. Susan Brasher from Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing to hear what families can do to ensure successful medical visits for people with Profound Autism. In this discussion, Dr. Brasher will share her expertise in the healthcare field and ways to promote success in all medical encounters ranging from routine medical visits to hospitalizations. Dr. Susan Brasher is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor at the Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. Her background includes being a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the primary care setting and a Pediatric Registered Nurse in the hospital setting. She obtained her PhD in Nursing with an emphasis in pediatric neurodevelopmental disorders, specifically autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She has partnered with community members, clinicians, and researchers to improve health and developmental outcomes of children with ASD for the past 20 years. She has served as a Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Investigator (Co-I) of numerous funded grants aimed at identifying and reducing health disparities in children and young adults with ASD. Her clinical and research experiences have spanned healthcare and community settings nationally. She is passionate about working closely with families of children and young adults on the autism spectrum.
