Exploring Experiences with Medical Trauma and Restraint Use in Autistic Individuals

Research Goal

This study will interview autistic adults (18yrs +) or caregivers of autistic individuals (13yrs+) about their experiences of feeling overwhelmed in a hospital or doctor's office, especially when it led to a behavioral or mental health escalation or traumatic experience. We will also ask about any experiences of being physically restrained (for example, being held by someone or having a device used to limit movement) in a healthcare setting. The interviews will be approx. 60 minutes and will be completed virtually on Zoom.

Eligibility

We are seeking to enroll both autistic adults (18+) and primary caregivers of autistic indivudals (13+).
