The Neurodiversity Paradigm: Perspectives from Autistic Individuals

Research Goal

The Illinois Institute of Technology is conducting this study to better understand the attitudes that autistic individuals have towards the different theories about autism spectrum disorder and neurodiversity that exist in society. It aims to gather this information via qualitative interview, seeking perspectives directly from autistic individuals. This study involves an audio-recorded virtual interview with Tiona Wu, BA either independently or by caregiver proxy. The interview requires a participation commitment of approximately 1 hour. The target number for enrollment is 8-12 participants, across a range of high and low support needs.

Eligibility

Eligibility criteria includes 1) diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, 2) ability to participate in an hour-long interview either independently or by caregiver proxy/ with assistance, 3) ability for the individual or proxy to communicate in English, and 4) over the age of 18. The study aims to recruit autistic individuals across a range of support needs, with particular recruitment focus on profound autism to ensure inclusion of individuals with high support needs. The target enrollment number is 8-12 participants.
